One of this week’s Channel 3 (WCAX) Redecorating with Ruxana segments, is how to pet-proof a room. For dog-lovers like me, dog hair in the home is a fact of life. A great solution to protect your furnishings from four (or two legged) children is to utilize slipcovers. I carry an amazing line of furniture by Miles Talbott called Washable Wonders. Today’s slipcovers are custom fitted, tailored, and made to order for your furniture so there’s no need to worry about pinning or tucking loose fabric in place. Custom fitted slipcovers are low maintenance, washable, and a great alternative to reupholstery. Whether made from linen, clipped velvet or outdoor-grade fabrics these versatile furniture covers have never been more popular.
Start Small: If you want to introduce a new color or pattern try using slips on your dining room chair cushions or a petite ottoman. Pick small but prominent pieces in your room to cover.
Refresh: Cover that outdated sofa in a fresh neutral fabric. Use throw pillows for a pop of color and contrast.

Panache: Consider adding detailed finishing touches to your slipcover like a pleated ruffle, buttoned tabs, long ties, or contrasting welt. These additions enhance your finished slipcover.

Double your Décor: Use slipcovers as a seasonal addition to your room to change the look and feel of the space. For example, if you have a rich autumnal colored sofa, you may want to select a lighter-colored slipcover for warm weather months. As a bonus, it preserves your sofa fabric.
Important Tip: Have your slipcover provider pre-wash your fabric before constructing your covers of machine washable fabrics. Skipping this important step may lead to a shrunken and ill fitting slip after it’s washed.
